An ‘06 Chrysler without a CEL.

Kinja'd!!!

So curious but it throws a cel whenever I remote start the car - misfire cylinder 1. But only if I remote start, regular start no code. There *was* an actual misfire a few years back but a new injector, coil pack and plug fixed that. So I'm at a loss. And the code does eventually self clear.

What’s more impressive is an 11 year old Chrysler with only 87,000 miles.

It’s just burned out.  I mean, it’s been on for 10 years.

It can’t accumulate mileage if it’s often not  drivable...

Could it be the environment in which you use the remote start?  As in, only remote start early morning with cooler temps, or something like that?

After seeing the Clifford alarm install in another thread make reference to the unit being spliced into the coils or injectors or whatever it was, I'm wondering if your setup might have some similar splicery going on that's behind the issue.

Is the remote start aftermarket? It might just be electrical shittery.

Full disclosure: I drove a PT Cruiser for 3 years that was decently reliable. Granted, it was an 01 manual, so it was before the quality nosedived, and there wasn’t an autotragic t o die.

What I mean is do you remote start only in the morning, after it’s been sitting for a while?  Or doesn’t matter the time or circumstance?  Maybe the battery is going out.  Bad ground?  Low voltages can cause some wonky stuff.

I’ve had my 99 Dakota since 01 and it’s going strong at 175k.

Is pretty random. I could regular start in the morning after sitting all night and it's fine. Get to work, remote start it a few hours later to go to the store and CEL. Conversely remote start in AM and CEL, get to work, clear the code. Regular start to go to store and nothing.

Might be a fuel pump/priming issue. I’ve been having a rough idle on cold start with my car, lead me to searches and folks have noticed if they jump in and fire up the car right away, they get misfires, but I’d they take a bit longer to start, no issues. Thought being that the fuel pump is losing its prime, or weak, and it takes a few extra seconds to get the fuel to the proper pressure. So if they fire it up quickly, the pressure is low and misfires.

So might be something like that with yours. If the remote start kicks in quicker than you might if you were starting the car manually, maybe the fuel pressures aren’t getting where they need to be quick enough. That’d be easy enough to check with a fuel pressure gauge. You could watch the pressures as you do the different startups.

Seems like you’ve covered the ignition part of the equation.
